Sunflower League All-Decade Team: Adam Venegas

Name: Adam Venegas
School: Olathe North
Graduated: 2003
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 285lbs.
Position: Defensive Line

Adam Venegas was a key cog for the Class of 2003 football team at Olathe North, a class which could perhaps be the best of any in the Sunflower Conference over the decade. During their three years on varsity, the class was a part of 37 wins, and 0 losses. Not to mention three 6A State championships. Venegas was one of the main anchors on the lines of those teams during that time.

Following a somewhat undershadowed junior season (Venegas was playing alongside Josh Carroll, who received as much attention as any lineman in the KC Metro at the time) Venegas really exploded onto the scene as a senior in 2002.

Venegas compiled 59 tackles (30 of which were solo), seven tackles for loss, and six sacks, and was the center point of the Olathe North defense that allowed a mere 9.9 points, and 63 yards rushing per game. With the help of Venegas, Olathe North rolled to a perfect 13-0 season, including a 41-13 trouncing of Derby in the 6A State Championship game.

Following his senior season, Venegas was named First Team All-State Class 6A, as well as being named to the Kansas Top 11 team, and garnering First Team All-Metro Sports as an offensive lineman. Venegas was also a talented wrestler and won the 2002 6A state championship in the 275lbs. and above category.

Following his time at Olathe North, Venegas went on to play D1 football at North Texas. There, he started on offense at the right guard position his junior and senior seasons.
